Dear Gracyn,
You are 6 weeks old today! WOW! Hard to believe! Mommy had her 6 weeks postpartum checkup and passed with flying colors. Her doctor was even impressed with her weight loss! Being 3 lbs under her pre-pregnancy weight is a very good indicator that the diabetes was strictly related to the pregnancy ....in other words, she less likely to deal with non- pregnancy related diabetes as she gets older. Music to our ears!!!!
As for you little one....you continue to impress us with your growth and development. You seem to be on track with all of your milestones.....Your eye muscles are growing stronger each day with fewer instances of crossed eyes! YAY! Your neck muscles are stronger as well....each day you hold your head up for longer stretches of time! You are starting to coo and mimic sounds. For example Daddy loves to say " whooooo, whoooo" to you. You study his face and purse your lips in the same fashion .....sometimes the same "whoooo" sound comes out and at other times a completely different sound comes out. Another neat thing that we have noticed several times now.....if your paci falls out of your mouth and rests on you chin/neck area, you are able to push it back in your mouth on your own! Pretty impressive!
The main concern that Mommy and Daddy are dealing with is your sensitive skin. What started out as a rash around your temple area last week has slowly spread as tiny bumps over your checks, chin, neck and chest area! It resembles baby acne. One day the rashes are plentiful whereas the next day, the bumps seem to diminish on their own. Mommy also has to be extra careful to keep all your fat roll creases dry....especially after a bath or the skin in the creases will get raw and red. I remember this exact problem with Caitlin as a baby....so it really doesn't surprise me that you have the same problem!
You continue to be a champion sleeper (7 hour stretch at night) and a terrific breast feeder. You have started to cry for the breast for comfort sucking....but Mommy doesn't mind! She loves the feeding relationship that has developed between the two of you. It sure will be difficult for Mommy to go back to work in the next few weeks! But it is nice to know that your Great Grandma will be your care taker while Mommy and Daddy are at work! LUCKY GRANDMA!
Love you with all my heart!
Grandma Dason
