CHURCH DEDICATION DRESS MADE WITH LOVE!!

 1. Purchase: Carters Onsies (white) , Rit Dye, baby socks, 1/2 yard of satin material, 2 yards of lace (mainly for the scallop edging....cheaper than buying lace by the yard, plus a perfect match), premade bows...or make your own bow from left over lace.

2. Dye the onsie to the color of your choice.  I wanted cream, so I brought a pan of water to a simmer, put in 1/8 teaspoon of tan dye (powder) plus 1/8 teaspoon of salt...Put onsie and socks in the pan at the same time.....stir.....I achieved the cream color after one minute.  Remove onsie and socks from pan at the same time......rinse in sink with warm to cool water.....then wash in washer and dry in the dryer.  That easy!!!!  :-)
3.  SKIRT: Unfold satin material and lay flat.  Unfold lace material and put on top of satin (scallops along bottom).  Measure baby from under arm to desired length of skirt.  Mine is 12 inches, plus 1 inch for seam allowance.  Pin and cut satin and lace 13 inches high (from bottom of scalloped lace to top of fabric which will be sewn on the onsie).  You should now have a very long piece of satin and lace, which will form the skirt.  Pin right side of lace to wrong side of fabric. Sew 5/8 seam at top of skirt. Fold lace over to right side of satin and iron.  Now you have a finished edge.  Gather this finished edge to width of onsie.  With right sides together, sew a seam on side of skirt.  Turn material to right side.  You now have a skirt which will fit around the onsie.  Sew 1/2 inch hem around the bottom of satin material, while leaving the scalloped edge hanging lower.  Sew the skirt on the onsie just under the arm area.

4. TRIM: Cut scallop lace 1/1/2 inch thick ( I used all the scalloped edges for this project from the remainder of the lace fabric.)  Fold over 1/2 inch on raw edge of scallop to back of lace and sew.  Sew scallop lace on finished edge around the neck, sleeves of onsie and around each of the socks.

5. Sew bow on onsie.

6. HEAD BAND: Add bow to existing headband or cover elastic with lace and add bow.  :-)

7. I may make a bib to match, since Gracyn drools a lot right now.  :-)  If I have time, I plan on using one of her bibs as a pattern.  I will need to dye a  white cloth diaper  with same process as the onsie and socks. (Wish I would have thought of this before when dying the other stuff)..... I will then cut the diaper into a bib shape and will sew on lace left over from the project.

BIG GIRL!

Such a big girl sitting in her highchair while Mommy cooks dinner!

SNOWED IN?

What should you do when you are snowed in?  Watch the Your Baby Can Read Video!  LOL......Actually this is a part of Gracyn's daily routine!

Blizzard of 2012

The day after Christmas of 2012, a blizzard brought a foot of snow, high winds and near zero visibility!  Mommy was home, all snug and warm with you while enjoying every minute of the time together!

I remember two other times we had a blizzard.  The first one of the blizzard of 1978.  It was the first time that the city schools closed for snow. I was in middle school at the time and loved every minute of it! We were snowed in for a week!  There was soooo much snow that the drifts covered our front door!  No kidding!  I found a picture on the web from this storm. You can see people standing on a roof of a single story building.

The second blizzard happened in 1983.  Our town was closed down for several days.  We had soooo much snow that the snow plows made really high piles on each side of the roads and it looked like we were driving through snow tunnels! Here's a picture I found off the web.  :-)  Gotta love technology!

We've had several other snow storms over the years with blizzard like conditions, but these are the two times I remember the storm being labeled a blizzard!  Now you can say that a blizzard occurred during your lifetime when you were just 14w1d old! :-)

Thank goodness this snow storm hit after Christmas and not yesterday!  (At least in our neck of the woods!).  We are all safe and sound.....and warm!

VISITING!

A visit from Grandpa Baker.

13w3d- VIDEOS?

When Gracyn's cousin Nevaeh was about 11 weeks old, she started watching Your Baby Can Read videos. She is now 2.5 years old and talks up a storm with reasoning skills of a Kindergartener. Mind you, she isn't reading, but her language skills and reasoning skills are impressive!!!!

When Gracyn turned 11 weeks old, we started the same program with her. She watches it intently daily, sometimes twice a day. A few weeks ago, Gracyn was VERY fussy in her carseat, so Mommy googled the video on YouTube....and guess what....it pacified her! Last night was another instance where the video pacified her....Gracyn was exhausted and fussy but it was time for a feed....the only way Mommy could pacify her enough to feed was by showing the video on her phone while she fed!

At least we know she likes it and is paying attention. I am curious to watch her grow and learn along the way......

I AM 3 MONTHS OLD!

I'm 3 months old today!! My 3 favorite things right now- Smiling, drooling (if you can't tell by the picture), and talking up a storm!

TALKING WITH MOMMY!

3 MONTHS OLD!

Dear Gracyn,

You are 3 months old today! WOW time flies! I am not sure how much you weigh, but guessing around 13 lbs. You are growing out of your 0-3 month clothes and fit in to many 3 and 3-6 month clothing! You still wear a size 2 diaper and a size 1 shoe. One thing we have noticed this past month is that your hair is growing back fast (you were bald for quite a while after losing your newborn hair!) Your hair is growing in dark! You smile, coo and drool up a storm! Your newest skill is batting at objects, like Mommy's work name badge or the toys on your playmat. We've also heard you giggle a few times!!!!

Speaking of playmat time….you still HATE tummy time! Mommy keeps trying! You have good upper body and neck strength…so no worries that we can't get you to enjoy tummy time yet….in time…. You do have incredibly strong legs, which you push yourself up into a "standing" position with support. You even try to sit up on your own, when resting in Mommy and Daddy's arms. We definitely have to watch you carefully, because you are quick! Just before you turned 3 months old, we've been able to carry you on our hips with you side straddling! That's a huge milestone in strength and coordination!

Remember when I used to worry about your wondering eyes…….well I can't even remember the last time I worried about them. YAY! The only thing we still worry about is your sensitive skin….Mommy is very careful to wash all clothing (including theirs) in hypoallergenic laundry soap!

Another worry lately is your fussiness all of a sudden to latch for a feed. It started when Mommy got the flu a few weeks ago.....for about 24 hours, you refused her! MOMMY WAS SAD! Then as Mommy got better, you fussed for shorter periods of time, but eventually latched. Now, here and there you have moments of not wanting Mommy! :-(. I have to say I am very proud of your Mommy, she is a trooper and refuses to quit breast feeding...It's her favorite thing to do with you! Fingers crossed that you sensed that Mommy wasn't well and that's the reason for the lack of wanting to latch.....Mommy has a goal to breast feed you for your first year! Fingers crossed!

As for sleep….you are still sleeping through the night! YAY! In fact you still sleep a lot during the day as well. You are definitely on a schedule of wake, change, feed, change (you are quite the pooper!), play a short time and sleep for another 3-4 hours during the day……then you sleep all through the night! You sleep in a bassinet next to Mommy and Daddy's bed so they can hear you breath! Not sure if you will ever make it to your crib.....Mommy has separation anxiety at night! You also sleep well in your baby swing during the day!

One thing I can say for sure….You have spoiled Mommy and Daddy! You are such a content, calm and happy baby!--Very Easy! Lucky them!

Love you with all my heart!
